Remember Google RSS Reader dies on the 1st so check out Feedly now
This is a reminder to all of you that use Google Reader to collect and consume your information via RSS feeds. The old war horse - aka Google Reader - is being sent to the cloud graveyard on the 1st July. This isn't new news and over the last 5 months there have been a number of alternatives set up to fill the gap left by the awesome Google Reader.
There is a link at the bottom of this post to a whole bunch of other free RSS feed readers, and I have to say I have tried many of them. But I want to save you time. The one that consistently delivered for me across laptop, Tablet and Mobile was Feedly. Initially, to be honest, it was a bit of a 'fancy dan', acting like Facebook, telling the user what they wanted to rather than what the user wanted to see (sound familiar FB users?). However, they listened to the user base. They made some changes, reinstated some functionality, they removed and integrated some useful tools like Buffer and generally made Feedly into a damn good product.
I have firmly settled on using Feedly - it is intuitive to use, customisable, works fantastically across all platforms and importantly it is a pleasure to read. This last bit sounds a little mad - but I use it every single day and need it to be time efficient in reading many feeds in a day.
If this sounds like an RSS tool appreciation post, it is exactly that. In my opinion it has taken my favourite tool - Google Reader - of many years, and improved it greatly, bringing the use of RSS feeds into the 'modern day'. I offer no apologies for that
Remember, once Google Reader closes down, you will not be able to access your feeds - they will disappear, so if you haven't done so by now, you better get busy this weekend.
As promised, here are all the RSS reader alternatives if Feedly isn't something you like.
